AIMS OF A PUNAHOU EDUCATION & ATHLETICS

To develop the full potential of each student through a broad and vigorous program of studies characterized by high expectations; and through rich opportunities and experiences for exploration, growth, and mastery

To develop within each Punahou student the capacity for critical and creative thought, and skills for effective written and oral communication, inter-personal collaboration, quantitative reasoning, scientific inquiry, and a global perspective. To develop qualities of curiosity, resourcefulness, persistence, and resilience – ultimately becoming a confident, self-directed, lifelong learner

To help each Punahou student to see the inter-connections between their subjects, to integrate Hawaiian values and culture in ways that can extend and deepen their learning, to be able to think flexibly, to have a questioning attitude, to generate alternatives and possibilities, and to apply and adapt their learning to relevant issues and challenges

To foster within each Punahou student, personal and social responsibility by developing empathy and compassion, and by embracing diversity at all levels, while cultivating moral reasoning that leads to moral action, personal leadership, and engaged citizenship

VALUE-BASED PROGRAM

Our program is based upon ten main values which drive everything we do:

COMMUNICATION

Communication is a two-way street. We keep it positive, yet real and provide an environment for open communication for all.

TRUST

Trust goes all the way through and around. We build trust through our words and actions, day in and day out.

CARE

We are about our student-athletes, first and foremost. On and off the field, their well-being and growth is paramount.

COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

It is every coach and players responsibility to fill a role and strive to be the best version of ourselves. We keep each other accountable.

PRIDE

We take immense pride in representing our family's, Punahou School, and the state of Hawai'i. We are proud to wear the school name across our jerseys.

INTEGRITY

Doing the right thing when no one is looking and when there's no one to give credit.

RESPECT

We respect the game, officials, school staff, opponents and spectators. Respect is always expected.

RESILIENCY

Fall down seven times, get up eight. Being fluid and able to adjust and refocus is a must. We push student-athletes to persevere and to never quit.

COURAGE

Courage is physical but it is also displayed in speaking up respectively and doing the right thing in the face of judgement and pressure.

HUMILITY

Gratefulness, relatability, compassion, kindness and contribution. We push our student-athletes to see the bigger picture and give back to others where they can.
